With Terminal Services it is a snap. Install terminal services on your server. Connect to your database from the remote site (dial up or through the Internet) and use ActiveApplications as if it is on your computer. Everyone sees the most current information and updates are posted immediately. This is a simple and easy task with adequate communication alternatives. What happens, however, if either location does not have reliable and speedy connections available? What happens when the connection is too expensive to implement? As usual the programmers at UDS have a simple solution to this complex problem. The equivalent situation using paper is to copy information on a copy machine. Take the copy elsewhere, mark the copy with a pen, bring it back to where the original is and transfer the changes to the original. Nice trick! The technical problem is how to export the information in your main ActiveApplications database, change it and add to it elsewhere while not "connected" and while continuing to change it at the main location. How can you still use it to conduct business at the main site? Worst of all how do you integrate the changed data back into the original database without destroying what was done on the main system? Does this sound like it is impossible? The answer is called Remote ActiveApplications. This optional software from UDS provides a simple and effective method to accomplish the tasks. The first component is the Transport feature. The transportable database
feature allows you to copy portions of your database tables into a transport
database. This allows you to send inventory items while not sending the Payroll
information that you may not want at the remote site. The transport database
once created can be copied to a CD or emailed to the remote site. Once at the remote site the Transport database can be loaded into a duplicate
of the ActiveApplications system on the remote server. This will replace the
information that is on that remote server with a fresh copy of your information. The personnel at the remote site will create invoices, orders and make almost
any other changes to the duplicate data. The trick here is to save an XML copy
of the changes. ActiveApplications has that ability built into it. The changes
your personnel make are saved to the remote database but a duplicate XML copy of
the changes is automatically made. Periodically the changed information (in the form of XML files) can be sent
(either by CD or email) to the main system. At the main system the transaction
is imported and posted into into the original database. There is even an easy
export feature that will send via email the accumulated transactions to the
server automatically. There is also the ability for the server to be set to automatically look
through an email box and find XML transactions to post automatically. This makes
the update to the main system automatic and painless. When an update at he remote site is needed the information can again be transported from the main site. The two databases will again be synchronized. Only ActiveApplications has this capability. We solve your business problems today. We solve them economically.
